Lady Du (born 17 May 1991) is a South African singer best known for her hit songs, UZuma YiStar and Dakiwe.

The UZuma YiStar hitmaker has a global presence with streams from Finland, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria. She has also served as the brand ambassador of Bulldogs Gin.

Early Life

Lady Du was born Duduzile Ngwenya on 17 May 1991 in Vosloorus, Gauteng, South Africa to DJ Choc Ngwenya. She grew up in a musical family.

Her father, DJ Choc Ngwenya, owned a nightclub his grandfather established in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni. She won her first DJ competition at 9. He taught her how to deejay at age 10, and she started singing at age 15.

Education

Lady Du has 19 qualifications in somatology, business management, logistics, anatomy, physiology, firefighting, health, and safety.

After matric, she received a scholarship from Carnival City to study somatology in the United Kingdom.

Career

Lady Du worked on a ship and has traveled around the world doing beauty, worked as a teeth whitening specialist, and as a safety officer.

When she returned to South Africa in 2012, she worked in her father’s shop, with trucks, as an event organizer for a foundation, and as a somatologist across 108 countries.

After her family pressured her to create a business or apply for a corporate job, she worked as a logistics manager for three years.

The Dakiwe hitmaker focuses more on music and has invested the money she made abroad into music.

She worked as a resident DJ for Ukhozi FM for five years. She wanted to quit music in 2021 and decided to drop her last two songs, Umsebenzi Wethu and Superstar, which became her breakthrough songs.

In 2021, she released the amapiano hit track uZuma YiStar. She made the song available on streaming platforms, including YouTube, in July 2021. She was featured in Makhadzi’s song Tchukutsha.

The multi-award-winning singer has performed in the United Kingdom in 2022. As an independent artist, she released her album Song is Queen in April 2023.

She has performed in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Aside from music, Lady Du is a successful businessperson. She owns a construction company, a beauty salon (Wawa Beauty), and properties.

In 2023, she announced that she would provide training for her staff by herself. Her beauty salon, Wawala Beauty, is in her hometown, KwaThema, east of Johannesburg.

Personal Life

Lady Du was dating actor Andile Mxakaza. The duo separated after breaking up in 2021 after reconnecting in April 2020. They had dated 12 years before for a few months.

After dating for four months, Andile proposed to her. They celebrated their first engagement anniversary in 2021. She has a daughter, Mia.

Lady Du surprised her mother with a Merc on Mother’s Day in 2022. She lost her brother, Thabiso, and her father, DJ Choc Ngwenya, died in April 2025. Her grandfather, Alias, owned the first nightclub in Vosloorus, and her niece, DJ Zan-D, works at YFM.
