Edith Venter (born 13 July 1950) is a South African businessperson and philanthropist best known for her events company, Edith Venter Promotions.

The 74-year-old is a Patron of many organizations, including Women in Finance, and a spokesperson for Osteoporosis. She is also an honorary member of The Right Honourable League of Gentlemen.

Early Life

Edith Venter was born on 13 July 1950 in Johannesburg, the capital of Gauteng province of South Africa. She grew up in an average family filled with love.

The businesswoman lived in London, the capital of England, before returning to South Africa. Sadly, she lost her father to cancer.

Career

Edith officially launched the promotions company Edith Venter Promotions in 1999. It rebranded to Edith Unlimited in September 2010 and back to Edith Venter Promotions in 2018.

The businesswoman is a three-time nominee for South Africa’s Best Dressed Women from 1998 to 1990. She won the title in 1989 and appeared on David Dodd’s calendar of South Africa’s Most Beautiful Women in 1994.

Venter made headlines following a fallout with one of the companies she worked for after her events company failed to pay back Whirlpool, distributors of KIC.

In addition to her business, Edith is active in philanthropy. She has supported and donated to many charity organizations, including Reach for a Dream, Cotlands Baby Sanctuary, the Red Cross, and JHB Child Welfare.

Edith has worked closely with the SA Guide Dogs Association and is a dedicated patron of the Cancer Association of South Africa.

She has worked with cancer patients for over 30 years and has received several awards, including The Mariette Loots Friends for Life Achievement Award for 2005. She is the Patron of Women in Finance and the spokesperson for Osteoporosis.

Edith is an honorary member of the charity organization The Right Honourable League of Gentlemen.

She wrote a book, The Art of Living Graciously, about her life following Oshun Publishers’ request, and it was published in October 2008. She titled her book.

Venter is also a sought-after motivational speaker and role model to many South African women.

Personal Life

Edith Venter married Roy Hermer by the age of 25. Their union was short-lived following their divorce before she was 30.

She then married businessman tycoon Bill Venter. They had two children together, Blane and Marc.

Edith made history after receiving an R12-million settlement from her husband in 1994, making it the highest South African divorce settlement.

Venter then married Garth Carstens, who was 10 years younger than her. They dated for three months before tying the knot. They eventually divorced, leaving her broke.

Edith Venter married insurance man Johnny Schwartz on 15 June 2008. They married at the Thornybush Nature Reserve in Mpumalanga, and Many South African celebrities attended the ceremony.

In April 2024, Venter announced that she was single and confirmed that her marriage to Johnny Schwartz had gone south. She has a daughter-in-law named Julie Nguyen.

She has gained notoriety for her socialite lifestyle, her expensive dress sense, and her lavish jewelry.
