Early Life

Thinah Zungu was born in 1988 in Inanda, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. His parents raised him in a four-roomed house, which was on the verge of falling apart.

Whenever it rained at midnight, they’d wake up because the roof would leak.

Education

Zangu attended Othando Primary School and matriculated from Sthabile High School in 2006. After his studies, he focused on doing music.

Career

The Durban gospel artist started channeling most of his energy into music in 2006. In 2007, Thinah worked with Phulani Hadebe on his debut album, Enkazimulweni.

In 2009, Thinah dropped another album, Kuthe bekwazi, which became a hit among Christians and was sung in churches. He has traveled around the country to minister through worship.

After discovering Thinah Zungu‘s impressive musical talent, Joe Gcabashe took him in. He released another album, Kwanqab’umusa in 2011. It sold over 25,000 copies and won him the Best Songwriter award at the 2012 SABC Crown Gospel Awards.

In 2013, Zungu worked with Sipho Makhabane, Bongani Mchunu, and Dumi Mkokstad on his album Nginguthandiwe. He released the 11-tracked album under his company.

Aside from music, his humorous social media posts about his double-story house, known as ‘istezi’ have drawn much attention to him. He performed alongside his son, Ndumiso, on a live show in Empangeni in November 2024.

Zungu owns a construction company, which he started after building his parents’ and his home. He has employed around 50 people.

In 2012, Zungu bagged two awards at the SABC Crown Gospel Awards. He won the Best Gospel Song and Best Song Writer for an album song titled Kwanqab’umusa. In 2016, he dropped a smash hit Ujesu’efik’ekuseni.

Thinah Zungu stars on a reality show on Mzansi Magic, Thinah singoZungu, which premiered in February 2025 on DStv Channel 161 at 7 PM.

Personal Life

Thinah Zungu and his wife, Zama Zungu, have three children – Ndumiso, Olwethu, and Smangaliso. His son, Ndumiso, has been performing with him since he was nine.

The Gospel star built a house for his family in 2019 and was installing a pool in his yard in 2021.

A group of assailants stormed his Durban home and robbed him at gunpoint in 2024. They went away with furniture, his car, money, and gadgets, totaling a loss of R1.5 million.

He later recovered the car, which then reduced the estimated value of the stolen item to around R500,000.
