March 23, 2025Smash Afrika (born 31 October 1988) is a South African TV personality, MC, and radio presenter. He is best known for hosting the show Massive Music on Mzansi Magic and Channel O.
The 36-year-old has hosted many radio shows since his 2013 debut on YFM. He was announced as the host of season 5 of Big Brother Mzansi, starting in 2025.

Early Life
Smash Afrika was born on 31 October 1988 in Bloemfontein, also known as Bloem, in the Free State, South Africa. His real name is Afrika Similo Mdutyulwa.
Career
Afrika joined YFM in 2013, having begun by co-hosting En Route 6. He started with campus radio and has continued to climb the ladders ever since.
The radio personality hosted his weekday show Point of Order from 3 to 6 PM in 2015. He has also appeared in other shows, including The Afternoon Drive and the weekday breakfast show Smash & Grab.
Afrika hosted YFM’s first reality show, Ground Zero, in 2016 and appeared as a guest Deejay in Hustle, an e.tv drama series.
He co-hosted the Mzansi Magic Friday night music show Massive Music. In 2018, Smash joined 5FM as the host of Live At Night from 7 to 10 PM on weekdays.
He was the Blue Room Host at the 2018 South African Music Awards and landed a role as a presenter in season five of The River, a telenovela on 1Magic Magic. In 2013, he starred as Rizzla on the Netflix comedy Miseducation.
In 2014, Afrika portrayed Blaza in the action drama Empini, a Showmax action drama. He was announced as the host of season five of Big Brother Mzansi, taking over from Lawrence Maleka after two seasons.
The 5FM presenter landed a new television show, Switch Your Space, on eTV. The show covers everything about home makeovers around the country.
Smash is also an MC and has graced notable events in South Africa. He emceed Rocking the Daisies, Black Coffee’s Block Party, Channel O’s 20th Birthday, and the DStv Delicious Festival.
Other events he has emceed include Sneaker Exchange, Rocking The Daisies, Major League Gardens, Homecoming Africa, Fact Durban Rocks 2017, and Amstel Boomtown.
The Bloemfontein-born founded African Urban Nights to celebrate African fashion, music, food, and art in urban spaces. He is a co-founder of October Thirty First, a start-up fashion brand.
Personal Life
Smash married Kefiloe Mdutyulwa, the daughter of actress Rami Chuene. The duo made their union official in February 2020. The couple have a daughter, Kaya Masa.
Kefiloe had accused her husband of cheating on her with the singer Msaki after stumbling upon a picture of her husband kissing the singer.
Other alleges surfaced that she found several love letters penned by the singer expressing her undying love to her husband.
