Putco Mafani (born 1964) is a South African author and radio presenter best known as Kaizer Chiefs PRO.

In 2021, Mafani was a Sports presenter and anchored the breakfast show on Umhlobo Wenene FM. He joined the radio industry at the then Radio Ciskei.

Early Life

Putco Mafani was born in 1964 in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. He spent nine years of his childhood at Fort Beaufort and Butterworth.

He saw his late father for the first time at his funeral, and his mother, Nomalungelo, catered for him.

The radio legend suffered a medical condition in his early teens. He started dreaming about doing radio when he was seven years old. His curiosity about the people inside made him open a radio set.

Mafani studied at Bethel College for nine years. He was a bed-wetter for five years.

Career

Putco joined the radio industry after his debut at the then-Radio Ciskei. He became the host of the BEE -Breakfast Eyondlayo Ekuseni – on uMhlobo Wenene – in 2010. The show grew from 800,000 to 3.1 million listeners before he left.

After leaving the BEE show, Putco launched a radio station broadcast in East London in the Eastern Cape province. His station, Putco Mafani Rhythm FM, was first aired in July 2017. He has also worked at Rhythm FM as a presenter.

Aside from radio presenting, Putco is a co-founder of the Putco Mafani Consulting (PMC) firm, The firm has extensive experience in public relations, marketing, communications, and managing some top brands in South Africa.

Mafani’s work history also extends to sports, especially football. He worked with the Johannesburg-based professional football club Kaizer Chiefs. He was the Public Relations Officer for the club.

Another club, Chippa United, employed him in 2014 to attract more sponsors in the communications department. His time at Chippa United was short-lived after he announced his departure in 2015.

In 2016, Mafani became the marketing and communications manager at Port Elizabeth. He is also a choir trainer and conductor with Music Theory Distinction.

He is also a sought-after public speaker, MC, and author. He wrote the book “Putco Mafani: The Price and Prize of Greatness“, which has the ISBN: 9780624089278.

Putco is a philanthropist who gives back to society through the Putco Mafani Foundation.

Personal Life

Putco Mafani is married to Bongiwe Mafani. In 2004, Mafani appeared in the Booysens magistrate’s court for allegedly assaulting his wife. He has children, Chulu, Noni, Mooki, Buhle, Imbo, and Lusenathi.

Mafani lives in East London and Centurion.
