Jelly Babie was born Karabo Khakhu on 27 January 2006. She is from Mabopane, a residential township in South Africa.

In 2023, Babie moved out of her parent’s house and secured her apartment.

Jelly Babie dropped out of school in grade 11. She revealed that Vusi Ma R5’s demise drew attention to her in school.

Her then colleagues and teachers commented on her going to gigs, so she decided to leave school. She revealed she was looking to return to school but hoped to do homeschooling instead.

Career

Babie is a talented Bacardi musician. She walked into the limelight working with the late Vusi Ma R5. She rose to fame at 16 after her song Thaba ke Chenchitse went viral.

The young talent has also collaborated with well-known artists such as Pabi Cooper, DJ Uncle Waffles, and Jelly.

Controversy

Jelly Babie recorded herself insulting a Big Save supermarket employee. Her social media followers shunned her for such a level of disrespect.

The singer had posted a video on her TikTok account where she was in a heated argument with a cashier, Martha Mazibuko. She spoke in a disrespectful tone to her.

The video went viral, and her followers condemned her actions. Many threatened to unfollow her, and they did. She had over 600,000 followers, but numbers later plummeted to 125,000.

She also lost some ambassadorial deals, including The P Squared Beauty Parlour, due to her rude behavior. She later returned to the supermarket to apologize to the cashier and the entire staff for her behavior.
