Connie Ferguson (born 10 June 1970) is a South African-Motswana actress best known for portraying Karabo Moroka in the soap opera Generations.

The 54-year-old starred as Marang Lebone in the M-Net telenovela The Wild. She appeared on the front cover of the 2018 Forbes Women Africa magazine.

Early Life

Connie Ferguson was born Constance Masilo on 10 June 1970 to Fish and Margaret Masilo in Northern Cape, South Africa.

She grew up in the landlocked country of Botswana before returning to South Africa. She comes from a tight-knit family and has a sister, Atoise Pilane.

Education

Connie Ferguson holds a drama and performing arts degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Career

Connie started acting as the wife of Tau Mogale Karabo Moroka in the soap opera Generations in 1993. The same year, she was voted as one of South Africa’s Ten Most Beautiful Women in Cosmopolitan Magazine.

The legendary actress launched a fragrance, True Self, in 2008 and a lotion in 2014. She owns Connie M Eyewear and Connie Bodycare.

Connie won the Best Dressed Actress In Generations award at the 2009 South African Film Awards. She was also a nominee for the Best Heroine Award.

After portraying Karabo Moroka for 16 years, Connie wanted to pursue other career options and left Generations. In 2010, she joined the M-Net telenovela The Wild as Marang Lebone.

Among other productions, Connie has played lead roles in Soul City, Maitemogelo, What If, and Crime Reporter. She has also appeared in Danger Zone, Okavango, Lesilo Rula, On The Right Track, Matswakabele, and Suburban Bliss. 

In 2010, Connie and her late husband Shona founded the television production company Ferguson Films. They produced the soap opera Rockville through their production company. M-Net commissioned it after three years, and Connie stars as Mavis Mabaso.

Connie has continued to break limits in the film and television industry. In 2018, she appeared on the cover of Forbes Women Africa magazine. She also featured on Portraits of South Africa’s Most Beautiful Women by David Dodd.

Connie and Shona’s work The Queen was nominated in many categories at the 2018 South Africa Film and Television Awards.

Since then, Connie has landed starring, lead, and cameo roles. She was the Judge in Comedy Central Roaster (2010), Josaline “Mermaid” Masire in Kings of Joburg, and Harriet Khoza in The Queen.

Renowned actress Connie returned to Generations in 2014 to help relaunch the soap opera but left in 2016. In 2013, she returned to reprise her role as Karabo Moroka.

Aside from acting, Connie has modeled for brands including Black Chic, Vodacom Billboards, Eskamel, and Wella. She has appeared in advertising campaigns for Ultramel Custard, Ellerines, Black Like Me, and Vaseline.

She was a nominee for several categories for the 2018 South African Film and Television Awards. She co-created the hit television show Unmarried, which premiered in 2018.

Personal life

Connie Ferguson married actor Neo Matsunyane in 1992. The couple had a daughter, Lesedi Matsunyane-Ferguson, in 1998. Their marriage ended in a divorce in 1998.

She married Shona Ferguson in November 2001. They first met at Matseliso Secondary. In June 2002, they welcomed a daughter, Alicia Angel Ferguson.

Sadly, after almost 20 years of marriage, she lost her husband to COVID-19-related complications in July 2021.

Connie owns a mansion, which she first showed to the public in 2017.
